Honesdale, May 31,
2006; The Honesdale Roots & Rhythm Music & Arts Festival will be
raffling off two amazing guitars on June 24, 2006, just before
headliner Sleepy LaBeef takes to the stage in Honesdale’s Central
park. The guitars area a major fundraiser for the festival.
The Grand Prize is a custom built solid body guitar; Florance Model
“T”— Honesdale Roots & Rhythm Festival Guitar #001—built and donated
by Peter Florance. This is the first in the series of guitars that
will be raffled every year at the festival.
The body is made of Louisiana Swamp Ash and the neck is hand carved
from locally harvested Hard Maple. The electronics are Peter’s own
“Voodoo Pickup’s”, hand wound by Peter and matched to the character of
the guitar.
Peter Florance has been in the Vintage guitar business for over 30
years, starting in New York City as a dealer in Vintage guitars and
becoming an international buyer for Japanese Guitar Dealers.
The guitar is beautifully hand painted by Honesdale artist Roger Hill.
Hill recently built his permanent studio and residence in Northern
Wayne County. From the surrounding countryside, the inspirations for
his paintings emerge.
This custom guitar is a fine example of Peter’s and Roger’s work and
is valued at approximately $2500
The First Prize, a D-16 RE Martin guitar, is sponsored by Connections
Magazine and is donated in tribute to the late Edwin E. Bailey, father
of Deborah Bailey, owner and publisher of Connections.
“The last guitar my dad played before he passed away in 1977 was a
Martin guitar. So, in honor of my dad and his love of music, I thought
it would be a wonderful way to remember him and help in the effort to
raise funds for the festival.”
Ed Bailey’s music career goes back to the 70s, when he played lead
guitar in one of Wayne County’s most popular bands—Carl Kennedy & the
Country Kings. Martin guitars are world renowned and this acoustic
model equipped with state of the art sound reinforced Fishman Premium
electronics is valued at approximately $2000.
Tickets are available for a donation of $5.00 each and are available
at the following Honesdale locations: The Dime Bank
(also at the Hawley & Damascus locations), Davis R. Chant Realtors
(also at the Hamlin, Lake Wallenpaupack, Lords Valley, & Milford
locations), Himalayan Institute Main Street, Nature’s Grace, Music &
Video Express Oui Three Antiques,
the Greater Honesdale Partnership office in the
Visitors Center, and from any Festival committee member.
Both guitars are on display at the Dime Bank’s Church Street,
Honesdale location.
