Tunes & Tales Brings Back Popular Acts for 2016

(Honesdale, June 1, 2016)…Geared for families with children of all ages—the “young at heart”—the Tunes & Tales portion of the 11th annual Honesdale Roots & Rhythm Music & Arts Festival on June 18th will feature two popular talents of past years:  Native American Little Bear and singer-guitarist Dave Matsinko.

Tunes & Tales, which runs from 11am – 4pm, takes place in the courtyard of the Central United Methodist Church at Church and 11th Streets, Honesdale, adjacent to the festival’s Food Vendors Row and the main stage in Central Park.

Little Bear will offer a unique and authentic look into Native American heritage with dances and music from the tribes of the Five Nations at 12 noon and 2pm.  Folk musician Dave Matskino will sing traditional folk songs from the hills of Pennsylvania while playing the guitar, old time banjo, mandolin and dulcimer at 11am and 4pm.

Other highlights of Tunes & Tales include:

•     Ride through history with The Wayne County Historical Society and the National Parks Service
•     Peek inside the cabin of a Delaware & Hudson canal boat
•     Experience daily life in the 1800s with a “Hands-on Homestead.”  Dress up like a homesteader, touch real artifacts or play at a train table
•     Become a junior archaeologist for the day! Talk to Pennsylvania archaeologists, dig up artifacts and excavate your own buried treasure
•     Play old-time games like ugly apple bobbing, potato sack races and bean bag toss
•     Make a take-home craft of your own— a Lenape noise maker or a homestead clothes pin doll

“We have a great series of games and performances this year,” says Lisa Macchia-Ohliger, Tunes & Tales coordinator, “Tunes & Tales is all about bringing history to life and making it more meaningful in today’s world. Come see what we have to offer!”
